Executive Profiles Richard T. Aab - Chairman and Founder
In 2001, Mr. Aab founded and today is Chairman of E-chx, Inc. a rapidly growing payroll solutions company headquartered in Rochester, New York. Mr. Aab is active in other private businesses, including energy management and real estate. He is also involved in numerous charitable, community and educational activities.
Mr. Aab is a Trustee of the University of Rochester as well as a Member of the Board of Governors of the University’s Medical Center, and is the benefactor of its research facility the Aab Institute of Biomedical Sciences, as well as the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute, which was named in his honor when it opened in August 2007.
He is a Trustee of Rochester Institute of Technology and continues to serve on board committees.
He served as the Honorary Chairman of the Lakeside Foundation’s Annual Gala for five years, hosting its speakers Former President George H. W. Bush, Retired General Colin Powell, Retired General Norman Schwarzkopf and Former Prime Minister John Major.
He is also a Former Trustee of Public Broadcasting Station WXXI in Rochester, NY and twice served as Chairman of its annual television auction and its 30th Anniversary Auction in 1997.
Anthony J. Tortorella - President and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Tortorella is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of E-chx, Inc. Under his direction the company is positioned for continued growth and scalability utilizing its proprietary software and its unique sales and service model that leverages “anytime, anywhere” payroll technology through the internet.
Prior to joining E-chx, Mr. Tortorella held various positions within a large national payroll company, Allstate Insurance Company and Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc. His experience ranged from data processing management and financial analysis within Allstate to financial services sales at Dean Witter. In 1987, Mr. Tortorella founded and developed the National Sale Support Division that today represents over 150 inside sales reps generating both leads and sales for all the payroll product lines. In 1991 he became the Director of Operations for the Human Resource Services and began the division within the company. In 1992 he assumed the responsibility for all sales and product development, as well and most recently was the Vice-President of Sales of the Human Resource Service division that included over 850 sales representatives and over 140 field managers and managed the division to generate nearly 30% of all revenue.
He and his family are supporters of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Upstate Chapter of Special Olympics, The Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital, Daystar and various other charities in the Rochester area. Mr. Tortorella is also a past member of the Board of Trustees of WXXI. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Bishop Kearney High School.
Brad A. Wayne – Executive Vice President and CIO
Mr. Wayne joined E-chx in November 2001. Prior to joining E-chx, he served as Executive Vice President and Director of Information Systems for BB&T Payroll Services. Mr. Wayne has over 20 years experience in the development of enterprise software solutions. Mr. Wayne is responsible for the design and development of E-chx’s industry leading payroll processing software system, “Encore”. In 1986, Mr. Wayne founded Horizon Information Systems, a software engineering firm specializing in payroll software solutions. In 1995, Horizon was acquired by ExpressPay, Inc. where Mr. Wayne served as Vice President and Director of Information Systems. At ExpressPay, Mr. Wayne managed the design, development and implementation of a payroll service bureau software application.
Richard C. Brienzi, CPA – Executive Vice President and CFO
Mr. Brienzi joined E-chx in June 2008, with the primary focus on financial oversight together with establishing corporate strategic initiatives. Prior to joining E-chx, he served as Executive Vice President / Chief Financial Officer with LeChase Construction Services, LLC. Mr. Brienzi was instrumental to the growth of LeChase, first improving financial reporting to assisting in expanding operations and services to new locations. Revenues grew from $160 million in 1999 to over $500 million through 2007 with significant improvement to operating earnings. Early in Mr. Brienzi’s career he was the CFO to a Broker Dealer / Investment Company which was acquired in 1998 by Key Bank. He also served as the CFO of two different Real Estate Management / Development companies.
Mr. Brienzi has extensive experience in Financial and Strategic Management, Risk Assessment, Human Resources, Information Technology together with Mergers and Acquisitions. Mr. Brienzi has provided the leadership, clarity, integrity and strategic insights necessary to grow businesses. He is a CPA and is licensed in the State of New York and began his career with the National firm of Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. Brienzi holds a B.S in Accounting / Finance from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and is active in a variety of civic organization.
Jackson B. Platt – Senior Vice President of Operations
Mr. Platt joined E-chx in November 2001. Prior to joining E-chx, Mr. Platt was a Vice President for Century South Banks, Inc., in charge of payroll services. Mr. Platt was responsible for building the payroll service bureau’s operations from start-up. Prior to joining Century South, Mr. Platt was employed from 1996 to 1999 in various positions by a large national payroll service provider in Alpharetta GA, including the final two years as Director of Operations. From 1992 to 1996, Mr. Platt worked for a different large national payroll service provider, holding various positions including Client Services Supervisor.
Paul L. Rosen – Vice President Sales and Marketing
Mr. Rosen joined E-chx in March 2003. Prior to joining E-chx, Mr. Rosen was a Regional Vice President of Sales for a large national payroll service provider managing a staff of 55 sales professionals across the Midwest and East Coast.
In 1998, Mr. Rosen founded, and was President of Employer Service Corporation (“ESC”), a payroll service bureau targeted to meet the needs of the accounting community. Early in Mr. Rosen’s career he was a sales rep at a large national payroll service provider from 1991 to 1994 and Director of Sales at Integrated Telemanagement from 1994 to 1997. Mr. Rosen has an MBA from the University of Chicago.
David B. Venturo, CPA, CVA – Corporate Controller
Mr. Venturo joined E-chx in December 2008 bringing over 20 years of Finance, Accounting and Tax experience in both private industry and public accounting. Mr. Venturo graduated from The State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and a minor in Business Administration. He began his professional career in public accounting with two regional CPA firms in the Albany area working in the audit and tax groups. After his work in public accounting, he relocated to Rochester, NY to join a $350 million US pharmaceutical subsidiary where he held management positions in the Finance, Accounting and Tax Groups.
Most recently, Mr. Venturo worked for almost five years at a national payroll provider where he held management positions in the Financial Planning and Analysis Group. In his latest position, he was responsible for the consolidation and reporting of the total company budget, forecasts and strategic plans. He is a CPA licensed in the State of New York and a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA).
Melissa Rutherford – Vice President of Payroll Services
Ms. Rutherford joined E-chx in June 2006. While at E-chx, she has held various positions including Documentation and Compliance Manager where she managed the SAS 70 Type I audit process. After the completion of the SAS 70 project, Ms. Rutherford became Vice President of Implementation responsible for new account set up and ancillary products. Ms. Rutherford, now serves as Vice President of Payroll Services, working closely with the team of payroll specialists to provide outstanding customer service to our existing clients. Prior to joining E-chx, Ms. Rutherford was an Epidemiologist for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health where she was responsible for the analysis and reporting of prevention and treatment program data. In addition, Ms. Rutherford developed web compatible program intakes and evaluations for state funded programs. Ms. Rutherford received her Master’s in Public Health from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2002.
Lisa Deverell – Director of Human Resources
Ms. Deverell joined E-chx in November 2003 as a member of the finance and administration group. Since the start of her employment, she held various accounting and administrative responsibilities within the organization before focusing primarily on human resources, and assuming the role of Director of Human Resources.
Ms. Deverell graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, and has extensive experience in human resource and payroll operations.
She began her career in human resources at PSC, Inc. (Photographic Sciences Corporation), a manufacturing company previously located in Webster, NY. At PSC, Inc she was the Human Resource Coordinator, responsible for recruiting and benefits administration, as well as the corporate payroll operations. Before joining E-chx, Ms. Deverell also worked in the not-for-profit sector where she held the position of Payroll Manager at DePaul Community Services in Rochester, NY.
